So I have been thinking about what I want to do with this space – updates about the company and our timeline will definitely always be here but it also feels like a great place to organize my thoughts like a blog.
Considering my own day to day life as a dog mom and how hectic things can be, I’m always looking for helpful resources to stay organized and be more aware of options for doing normal daily things, and I think that’s what this space should be.
I’ve already come up with about 4 different post ideas for helpful tips for new dog-owners, like meal time recipes, grooming tips, and more, so I’m pretty excited to get started!
Once I have the first ones ready they’ll be going up on a weekly basis, so stay tuned and feel free to drop a comment or message me for any requests of topics you’d like me to cover!
Well, it’s been a busy 4 weeks since the launch of the company, and I’ve been working non-stop on fulfilling orders and working on the grading scale; new designs are even in the works!
I figured now is as good a time as any to officially introduce myself and my dog babies on the blog portion of the site, so you can get to know us as a family and maybe understand why this company’s mission is so important to me.
So hi! My name is Jean Marie and I am the founder of Jacky Moon. I’m 26 years old, originally from Southern California and now living in Jersey City, New Jersey. I studied Fashion Design at FiDM in San Francisco and in LA, and graduated with my degree in 2014. Since then I have worked in the retail world professionally while working toward my design goals in my off hours.
In 2015 I met Jack – an australian silky terrier with a heart of gold. He was 4 months old when he came to live with me and he has been my best friend ever since. Jack is energetic, vocal, and highly empathetic – he can read a room like no man I’ve ever met and he always knows how to be a calm and steady presence in my times of need.
My sister rescued Padme in 2016, a blonde tibetan spaniel who they guessed to be anywhere from 4-6 years old at the time. We brought her home about 6 months after we got Jack, and she adds that dash of refined sophistication our little family was lacking. Padme is quiet, calm, and entitled! She has such a little attitude and loves to be waited on, but she’s also very eager to play and even cuddle – as long as it’s on her terms.
These doggies are my little children – we love them with all our hearts and want them to have the best lives possible. Part of that includes their clothes being right for the crazy weather patterns of the east coast but finding stuff that ticks that box and the box of a good fit has always been so hard!
Padme has a large chest, but her shoulders are narrow and she slips right out of most garments. Jack is so small that he’s basically swimming in a lot of big clothes, but he’s also long so not many x-small garments provide good coverage for his back.
I see this all the time with our other fur friends too – the dog clothing industry is not nuanced enough to provide properly fitting clothing for the variety of doggy body types that exist. But I think we should have good options for quality clothes for our dogs that includes the fabric quality as well as the quality of the fit, and I figure if no one will do it for us then I should just do it myself.
So that’s how Jacky Moon came to be. It started out as frustration that there are just no good clothing options for my fur babies and then deciding that I’m just gonna have to solve that problem, because my dogs deserve better than what’s out there.
I guess that says a lot about who I am as a person, that I care enough to get angry and then just get working.
